At least 30% of adults suffer from this problem, and in some areas the percentage is closer to 50%. It can be a major sleep disruption to those who sleep with or around the snorer.</p>
<p>Millions of dollars are spent on products and cures by people who are desperate to end the annoying noise. Some of these products work, but many do very little to actually alleviate the problem. Many people have found after spending hundreds of dollars on products and cures, that they still snore.</p>
<p>A few natural remedies can alleviate or even cure snoring, but only if the snorer is persistent in practicing the remedy. One commonly known natural remedy is to lose weight. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Recent longitudinal studies have contributed much to Alzheimer&#8217;s disease research. They have also given strong indications of workable courses of action for Alzheimer&#8217;s prevention. A longitudinal study is one that follows a certain group of people for several years, noting differences in their activities, lifestyles etc.</p>
<p>These differences are then correlated against cognitive impairment tests and, ultimately against brain autopsies which remain the one certain way to determine the effects of Alzheimer&#8217;s disease (AD).</p>
<p>So what have they found? What more do we know about Alzheimer&#8217;s prevention from them? Here is a brief summary.</p>
<p>1. In a study of Nuns, Monks and Priests, ongoing now for more than two decades, researchers are finding that those who are more conscientious about their religious duties have a lower incidence of Alzheimer&#8217;s. They are concluding that being diligent, active and conscientious about what one is doing, seems to help prevent AD.</p>
<p>Those who are intellectually active, learn new things, push themselves to develop new abilities, are less likely to develop AD than others who are less active mentally. (Hence the title of this article!) The message is clear: Use you mind, push yourself to learn to play a musical instrument, speak another language.</p>
<p>Challenge yourself to use your mind in new and non-routine ways, and that increased mental activity will help in Alzheimer&#8217;s prevention.  In the Nuns&#8217; study, researchers noted that many mentally active nuns who did not develop AD symptoms, nevertheless had AD&#8217;s telltale plaques and tangles in their brains.</p>
<p>They theorize that the new activities encouraged the Nuns to develop parts of their brains not used before and find new neural paths to by-pass the diseased, non-functioning parts. For whatever reason, the correlation between challenging mental activity and low AD incidence is strong.</p>
<p>2. A healthy heart and circulatory system help the brain stay free of AD. In one study people who had had strokes were found to be 60% more likely to develop Alzheimer&#8217;s than those who had not had strokes. There is a high correlation between taking the steps to avoid strokes and avoiding AD.</p>
<p>3. Also, there is a high correlation between most types of heart disease and Alzheimer&#8217;s disease. Generally speaking, what&#8217;s good for you heart is apparently also good for your brain: low-fat, low cholesterol, good blood pressure control, physical activity and controlling your weight.</p>
<p>4. Interestingly enough, in the Nuns&#8217; studies, those who generally had a positive, cheerful attitude were found to be less likely to contract AD than their &#8220;the glass is half-empty&#8221; counterparts. It is truly said that people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be&#8230; And that is completely under your control!</p>
<p>While there is still no cure for AD, evidence that it can be prevented by making wise lifestyle choices continues to mount. Perhaps AD will prove to be like smallpox; the cure is in the prevention! And good lifestyle and nutrition choices will be for AD the equivalent of the cowpox vaccination used to prevent smallpox.</p>

If you are waiting for your disability claim to be approved and need physical, mental, social, or even emotional help, it may be worth looking into. Here we will discuss some of the most helpful resources.</p>
<p>Most states have a division specifically for those with health problems. In Idaho, it is called the their medical benefits, etc. To find out more, contact your local Social Security Administration Department of Health and Welfare. In Utah, it is the Division of Workforce Services. Regardless of the name, this department may help you with medications, finding a job, get Medicaid or/and ask for a referral, or check with your government listings.</p>
<p>United Way is another good resource for the disabled. Their mission is to assist Americans nationwide with education, income, and health. The goal with education is specifically to ensure quality Child Care, increase school readiness for children, and push for academic completion. In terms of income, their goal is to increase financial independence and help prepare for retirement. They certainly have much to offer a disabled American with limited financial means. Health is also an important issue, and United Way has programs for adults as well as children. It is worth a look.</p>
<p>It may also be worth looking into your state Department of Health. There are sometimes free clinics offering health care or other services. There may also be programs offered at a reduced rate for those with limited means. At the very least, someone at the Dept of Health should be able to refer you to a good doctor or specialist for your condition.</p>
<p>If you are religious, check with your religious leaders to see if a welfare program exists. Many religions are connected with such a program and may be able to help. Or, if you have a disability attorney (or even if you don&#8217;t), call and ask for a list of community or state programs or resources that they recommend.</p>
<p>Many <a href="http://ssdisabilityapplication.com" target="_new">disability</a> applicants do not realize that their elected state officials may also be able to help. If your medical or financial condition is becoming urgent, gather documentation to that effect and send it to Social Security. If your case is not expedited, contact your State Representative. <p>For instance, did you know that weightlifters have the highest vertical leap of any athlete in any other sport?</p>
<p>It&#8217;s true.</p>
<p>There are many other elite athletes that have vertical leaps reaching 40 inches. Athletes such as sprinters, footballers and shot putters train for brute strength and power, don&#8217;t necessarily need a large vertical leap, yet have one due to their training.</p>
<p>After much research, I found a common theme amongst athletes who have large vertical leaps. They are extremely strong in 2 exercises in particular&#8230;the squat and the power clean.</p>
<p>Now by strong I mean being able to squat at least double their bodyweight and power cleaning 1.5 times their bodyweight. Here are some examples.</p>
<p>BRIAN URLACHER</p>
<p>In high school was drilled about training legs in the weight room. His coach didn&#8217;t care if they didn&#8217;t get all their upper body in, as long as they got in their squats and power cleans.</p>
<p>At 6&#8242;4 and 258lbs, he runs 4.57 in the 40yard dash, and has a 38 inch vertical leap. He can power clean 405lbs, and squats 555lbs!</p>
<p>VERNON DAVIS</p>
<p>The 49ers tight end has been labelled as a freak of nature. At 6&#8242;3 and 253lbs, he can run a 4.38 second 40 yard dash and has a 42 inch vertical. He is also an obsessive weight trainer who can squat 685lbs and power clean 355lbs.</p>
<p>BEN JOHNSON</p>
<p>There are rumours that Ben Johnson never did any plyometric training. All he focused on was heavy weights and sprinting. I even read that he refused to run more than 100m because he wanted to be as explosive, and have as many fast twitch fibres firing as possible.</p>
<p>Ben Johnson was extremely explosive and was known for having the best starts of his era. This can be directly related to him being able to squat 600lbs for 6 reps, when he only weighed 190lbs!</p>
<p>Now I don&#8217;t want to speculate about steroids helping him lift this much, but you cannot ignore the correlation between his strength to his speed and explosiveness.</p>
<p>MAURICE GREENE</p>
<p>Former world record holder running 9.79 seconds in the 100m can squat 500lbs at a weight of 175. This gave him a huge vertical leap and a tremendous start out of the blocks.</p>
<p>MATT SHIRVINGTON</p>
<p>Australian sprinter, also known for his explosive starts can power clean 120kg and squat 200kg. This is all while weighing 80kg.</p>
<p>NICU VLAD</p>
<p>A 220lb world record holding weightlifter once recorded a 42 inch vertical leap! This was with no warm up and while wearing heavy weight lifting shoes.</p>
<p>MARK HENRY</p>
<p>WWE wrestler who competed at the Olympics for weightlifting can at 6&#8242;3 dunk a basketball. This is amazing, considering he weighs 385lbs! Along with his world calibre snatches and clean and jerks, he can squat 1000 pounds and deadlift 900.</p>
<p>BROCK LESNAR</p>
<p>Former amateur and professional wrestler, UFC fighter Brock Lesnar is a phenomenal athlete. He once tried out for the NFL and at 6&#8242;3 and 283 lbs recorded a 4.65 40 yard dash and a 35 inch vertical. This is incredible without even taking into consideration he was banged up from a fairly serious motorcycle accident a few weeks prior to the test!</p>
<p>He can also bench press 475 pounds and squat 695 pounds.</p>
<p>FRED &#8216;DR SQUAT&#8217; HATFIELD</p>
<p>Powerlifter who at 255 pounds can squat over 1000pounds! No wonder he has recorded a vertical leap of 40 inches.</p>
<p>Although squats and power cleans aren&#8217;t the only 2 exercises to help increase vertical leap, you cannot ignore the underlying theme amongst all these athletes. They are all extremely strong, in relation to their bodyweight in these 2 lifts.</p>

<p><strong>Age Related Bruising in the Elderly</strong></p>
<p>As we get older, the lining of the blood vessels and capillaries become weaker and bruise wounds are so much slower to heal.  With aging capillaries, the tissue supporting the vessels weaken and become more prone to rupture. Thinning skin in the elderly lack the extra barrier of skin that younger individuals have.
