Have you ever thought you would like to place a website on to the internet but have no idea where to start and how to finish. Well let’s run through it step by step. You will soon realize that it is not that difficult.

First off, your website needs a name and address. That name is referred to as a domain name. There is a wide assortment of online sources where you can purchase your domain name. They will guide you through the whole process. They will help you to select an available domain that is not currently in use. The name you want quite possibly is already taken so they will guide you in the selection of a domain name that closely matches the one you want. At that point they will register the name with domain authority registry.

Now you need to assign that domain name to a hosting location. This is commonly referred to as pointing your domain or assigning nameservers to that domain. To accomplish this task you will need to select the hosting company where your website will be stored and displayed on the internet. Each hosting company has addresses or so called nameservers to describe the location of your domain and in turn the website that you upload to that location.

The types of website hosting packages available today vary widely and a package is available that will satisfy any need. Someone just entering the website hosting arena will likely do just fine with a shared webhosting package. These typically include every imaginable feature a newbie could want. One fine example of a monsterhost package can be found at Hostmonster Website Hosting. They are a good suggestion for newbies simply due to simplicity. They offer one package only for all customers.

This is a very good package that satisfies most requirements for everyone from newcomer to advanced and their price is quite competitive. Many other reputable hosting providers can be found as well. Most offer several levels of hosting that are more tailored to specific needs. These would include well known names such as Yahoo and Godaddy.

You may encounter a few choices with all website hosting offers. The two most common platforms, Unix and Windows are widely available and offer various options and have differing abilities. Don’t let this choice confuse you. It bears no relationship to the operating system you will be using on your computer. Your choice of platform will determine the utility and type of software that you can use. Unix Hosting allows for easier use of common programming languages such as Perl, PHP, MySQL and Python.

For most basic shared hosting; the operating system should not make a big difference. UNIX and Linux are stable and more affordable than Windows. Microsoft FrontPage is supported on the Windows OS, UNIX, and Linux.

Arguably, the best way to choose between UNIX and Windows is to look at your website publishing resources. If your website publishing resources use mostly Microsoft products, such as Access, Front Page, or VBScripts, it’s probably better to stick with Windows. But, if reliability, universal compatibility, and stability are a concern, UNIX would probably be the way to go.

Features of either package will be the same and in fact the features offered by most reputable hosting providers will be very similar. Competition has closed the gap on pricing as well. Most packages offered today will allow you a free domain registration and free account setup. Other typical features usually include several email accounts, the ability to host several domains within that same account.

Many offer onsite website building software. You can use their step by step tutorials and their templates to quickly produce a very nice and professional looking website. No previous website building knowledge is required.

Most of the process is quite simple but it does revolve around one issue. If you are depending heavily on your hosting provider to step you through the whole process, it is critical that they have a reputation of good support. This can not be overstated. Support is important. You are dead in the water if you have run into obstacles and can not get help from the support people.

Again, it important to select a proven reliable website hosting provider with top notch support. This may well be the most important issue in your selection.

That should be the basics you need to know to get off and running with your website. It really will not be that difficult. Start now by selecting a hosting company and deciding on a preferred domain name. I like the monsterhost for newbies. Check them out!

Your black background may be destroying your white hat efforts Accidental Spamming by using tables in your web design

There are many concerns that you should have when you use tables in your web site design. One concern that is overlooked quite often by well-meaning designers who are trying very hard to use ‘white-hat’ methods is accidental spamming.

Accidental spamming occurs because tables allow you set a background for each cell. Many designers use this feature to set the cell’s background color rather than setting the entire page’s background color.

Lets use the example of a page with a typical white background color and a table. The designer sets the background color of one of the cells to red and then used white text for users to read.

While the site’s visitors may have no problem reading the text in the cell, the text inside the cell is the same color as the main page background. A search engine’s spider may consider it spamming because the designer is trying to use the same color text and page background. You have to remember that the spider is just a machine and may be coded to think that the designer is trying to hide the text! This may cause your site to be penalized pretty severely.

But I like the way my site looks! After taking a look at your site(s) you may find that you may be accidentally spamming the Search Engines. If you want to keep the same look and feel and avoid the possible penalty to your rankings, use CSS instead:

// let’s define the class

.whitetext

{

Color:#ffffff;

}

… then when it comes to our text:

This technique, so far, works very well for keeping the formatting that you like without the spiders thinking you are spamming.

Often when it comes to hosting, there are a lot of options out there and you might end up spending a lot of valuable time looking for an appropriate package. This article outlines why it’s better to choose a web designing firm that offers in-house hosting services and what you need to know to get the most out of your package.

Why do it?

After all, if you’ve managed to find an affordable deal with a supposedly ‘great’ web hosting company, why not take the deal? There’s great functionality and all for a great price. But what about technical support? If the server goes down at a critical moment, wouldn’t you rather deal with someone reliable whose been dealing with you and your company before rather than some random stranger? Besides, what guarantee do you have that they’ll respond to your query in the first place? They have millions of customers to service, what makes your case special? Yeah sure, you can threaten to leave if they don’t but when it comes down to it: what difference will it really make?

As opposed to working with the in-house hosting services of your existing web design and development firm where you know the staff can be trusted upon to make management easy. And you can guarantee on the fact that they want your business, ensuring if their service is reliable, you can pass on their name to others in your business and personal circles.

Secondly, despite the low costs and ‘great features’ of other hosting providers, know that cost isn’t everything and quality of service should be the basis of your decision. With a web design firm, you can contact the right official and get a full evaluation of up-time/downtime comparison charts, ask about the availability of added security and even have customised solutions built towards helping your business instead of a standardised, one-size-fits-all solution.

A huge benefit of using an existing web design firm is that installation is fast and easy with relatively no delay between when the site has been completed and when it’s being uploaded. You can’t guarantee a fast turnaround time with normal hosting packages.

Because you know about the existing quality of service regarding all other areas of the web development firm, making a descision regarding the hosting aspects will be a relatively easy decision.

You will be guaranteed a personalised approach to the huge ordeal of locating the appropriate provider and package since the firm will already know (in detail) your existing requirements, goals and objectives and will choose the appropriate deal.

You will also know for certain that the package and provider will be the most suited to run your website and any attending applications and because you are aligning yourself with a web development firm, will have the option of including search engine optimsation support which is a huge advantage over traditional hosters.

By incorporating the firm’s hosting package into your specifications, you will be comfortable with the people you’re dealing with, the customer service and technical support, the knowledge that you will be able to make updates yourself via a customised web control panel, an option to test out a dummy setup to ensure it works for you and a professional to work with you on designing security policies and procedures that are all lacking in hosting with a hosting provider.

Any SEO expert will tell you that SEO does not mean changing a site’s code if you designed your site right in the first place. If you have hired professionals to employ the range of strategies and techniques usually employed with SEO then you will not need that many “on-page factors.” On-page factors are what SEO experts call changes that need to be made to text of your site. ‘

There are two ways of applying SEO techniques – through the application of good design and through such methods that the search engines do not approve of such as spamdexing. Some industry experts define these methods, and the practitioners who utilize them, as either “white hat SEO”, or “black hat SEO”. Other SEO experts see the whole black and white hat polarization as an over-simplification of what search engine optimization actually involves. However as a rule of thumb – the more changes that you or your SEO expert are making to your text, the more coding your pages will need.

Coding a site to maximize SEO is best utilized during the initial stages of a site’s design. This is because even the rudimentary structures to do with web page design can be optimized including the menus, content management systems and shopping carts.

An SEO tactic, technique or method is considered “White hat” if it conforms to the search engines’ guidelines and does not involve an attempt to deceive the search engines. White Hat pleases search engines because it reflects content that a user will definitely see if the link is clicked on in the search engine pages. Black hat” SEO are methods to try to improve rankings that are disapproved of by the search engines and/or involve deception. This can range from text that is “hidden” or links that direct users from a page that is built for search engines to one that is more human friendly.

Maybe you can say external link is not the most important reason for ranking in search results. But I think it is still a very important way to develop your website in today and tomorrow. Here are some ways to build external links in my experience.

1, Write articles and submit them to EzineArticles, GoArticles, iSnare, etc. Good articles will get you more external links highly qualified traffic.

2, Submit your site to DMOZ or other directories. This is an old way. But still very useful today, I think.

3, Ask or answer questions in Yahoo! , forums or blogs with providing your website link. Remember, don’t be spamer when you do this.

4, Buy or exchange links with some high PR website. Contact the webmasters of these websites and say what do you want to do.

Offshore outsourcing to India is one of the most popular management practices today. Though it is generally perceived to be a cost reduction practice, this is just one of the reasons one should consider offshore outsourcing. Most parties who outsource are unaware that Indian Service Providers do not just offer cost effective solutions, but also world class solutions living up to internet, CMM, ISO and other global standards.
However, offshore outsourcing has come under attack recently. There has been an outcry by overseas companies accusing Indian companies of spoiling the market rates and delivering below par quality products and services. This claim can partly be justified owing to the hoard of mom and pop outfits mushrooming in India.
But experts believe that outsourcing is essential and the benefits outweigh the shortcomings by a long way. Low prices offered by markets such as India as compared to the US and UK is surely one of the major reasons, the other being the cost saving in initial investment in infrastructure, training, and other such preliminaries.
There will be savings and along with these savings there is great value addition in terms of quality offered especially in markets such as India. Most who outsource only realize the quality and value addition after the offshore outsourcing relationship begins. This is not usually the primary goal when deciding to outsource, and the creativity and talent in India comes as a surprise to many.
Offshore Outsourcing to India is about quality and value at a reduced cost.
The fact that so many companies continue to outsource is living proof of this. Along with the sheer volume of work that is pouring into the country comes recognition of the talent and expertise possessed by Indian programmers and other man force. Indian software vendors have developed more of a global services delivery capability than their counterparts in other countries. India’s workforce also offers the largest pool of technical skills in the world, and the country universities add 180,000 engineering graduates to its ranks annually. Already many companies are outsourcing with quality rather than cost in mind.
So, the moral of the story is that outsourcing is here to stay because it:

•	Reduces overheads, free up resources

•	Improves speed and service

•	Reduces operating costs

•	Gets you access to specialized skills

•	Saves on manpower and training costs

•	Widens your skill set.

•	Avoids the cost of chasing technology

•	Reduces the overall IT management burden while retaining control of strategic decision making

Do you want to build your own website? Are you looking for some web builder companies for help? Now, I am sharing my experience with you, which may help you build a successful content-based website.

First, just think what are you doing, and why do you want to build your website. Maybe you want to sell something or do your online business online. And another man just want to share something with the people worldwide. Now you need to select your domain name. If you are selling books, you need register a domain name just like book.com or books.com. Unfortunately, most of the short, good domain names just like these are registered already. You need to select another one or buy good domain names from the current owners. Commonly, the new domain name is about $7 per year.

After you register or buy a domain name that featuring your business, you need to buy a web host for your site. Although there are many free web host for you today, I strongly recommend your buy web host from a big, famous company. Because you need fast, stability web host for your site. There is no such thing as a free lunch. $6 or more per month is enough for your new website. After you buy it, you will get a user name and password from the web host company. You can get access your web host account. Sometimes, you need to set up the DNS for your domain and web host which find the right place from your domain name to your web host.

OK, everything is ready. You need to design your website now. Maybe you are ignorant anything about web design. That doesn’t matter. You can buy some templates online. Also there are some free templates too. You can design your website with the templates. FrongPage2000 is enough. That is very easy to use. You may need some script for your site. Just hire some professional programmer to do it. All of these are not expensive.

After you design is done, just upload your pages to your web host account. Then open your domain name in the Internet Explore. What can you see? You see your own website now.

OK. You website is done. Please get it updated and add fresh content regularly as you can.

This article is mainly discussing possible voip threats to users & providers in 2007 and in coming years.

1) Inter-Company Toll Frauds: Where an outsider and an employee of a VOIP company get together and run a Toll-free VOIP business but charges the customers. Providers get 0 money since the employee routes all the call from provider’s phone and outsider uses a toll-free to connect to the employee.

2) Message Interception: A user can intercept the message sent to another user and track your SIP No. & other information.

3) Enumerating: Sending direct random information to registrar servers to find information about other registered users.

4) DOS Attacks: Denial of service attacks using proxies and manipulated header info.

5) Virus/Worms: Last but not the least. Worms and Virus will be on the loose in VOIP space in future.

So beware, its time to tighten the security and go extra step further to do our best to save ourself from such attacks.

For home users, we could follow some simple guidelines to avid such attacks if not 100% they can still be effective.

1) If you are home VOIP user, don’t get calls from anyone (stranger), Don’t accept a call not from your contacts. Instead try to chat with him first before starting a call to verify his identity.

2) Use secure VOIP clients which can sit on top of your favorite VOIP clients. Zfone is one such application which can encrypt your call.

3) Update your antivirus software regularly. if you do it religiously, most of the virus & worms wont harm you.

Hope this article helps you keep the hackers out.

Vinay is avid reader and follower in VOIP space and is currently busy writing a VOIP blog.
